Hello Participants!
— I am so glad that you are joining me on this creative journey.

Some basic guidelines:

A reminder that the initial videos were recorded in 2020 in serious quarantine, so pardon the rough self-video skills. (I did my best… and wow was my hair short back then!) Many things have changed since I first designed this program, but what remains is the heart to give people a voice to tell their stories and a way for the world to comprehend them with empathy. At our first showing of the initial body of work, curator Mike Hernandez called it “an empathy machine” and I have thought about it that way ever since. I hope you will forgive any rough patches and know that this comes from my heart and I feel honored that you want to entrust me with your stories.

1 - Please do all of the videos in order. The project is cumulative and will really work best if you watch each video and do the activity for it in one sitting. I will space them out in the loading to encourage you to do them one at a time (as opposed to binge watching and binge creating)

2 - Your participation in the project is also your agreement for me to share your artwork, artist statement, and either your name or initials as a part of our collaborative.

3 - Each video will have a link to a pdf for what to print out. If you do not have access to a printer, please email me at liberty@libertyworthart.com and I will arrange mailing you some of the materials.

4 - Some videos will have additional resources - cool videos or podcasts to watch before you do the work to give you more background/inspiration/mindset. I highly recommend these. There are so many more and I really narrowed these down to my favorites.

4 - tools needed - scissors, glue stick, 1-2 pieces of poster board or a large piece of paper and an open heart. If you do not have access to scissors, glue or large paper - again - let me know and I will arrange to get some to you. (I HAVE SOME PRECUT SQUARES THAT.I CAN MAIL TO YOU IF YOU ARE INTERESTED)

5 - I would love to have good images of your work. If you are able to take clear (not blurry) pictures with a phone camera, that will suffice, but if you cannot, I hope you will consider allowing me to connect with you to get access to the work so I may photograph or scan it in for our exhibit.

6 - You may start immediately! I do not have a deadline for this second edition of the program, but I am actively looking for places to share the work. The timing feels just as critical now as it did when I first made it. It’s my hope to use some of your compositions to turn back into new quilts, so let’s shoot for getting to these before July 1? If you need more time, just talk to me.

You can learn more about the residency which initially inspired this art collab in 2020 at inbreak.co

I CAN’T WAIT TO SEE WHAT YOU MAKE!
